All Or None
A Detective Ryan Mystery #2
by Clive Fleury
Genre: Cozy Mystery
Returning to Sydney, Detective Ramesh Ryan is promoted to
the Homicide Squad. Zoe Yang joins him there. Now a detective herself, she is
assigned as his junior partner. Straight up, the cops are off and
running-investigating the discovery of a murdered company director. Following
the clues, Detective Ryan finds that this and a second murder may be linked to
past events.
As the pressure mounts for a quick solution to the case, the
detective finds that he too, is in the killer's crosshairs. But Ryan is
distracted from the investigation by a romantic encounter with an old
university friend. He also worries about his mother, Mumta, and her new
obsessive desire for grandchildren from her only son. Could this be linked to
her recent medical tests? And there's another pressing problem-the plague of
rats in his apartment block.
Detective Ryan's hands are well and truly full!

Off Season
A Detective Ryan Mystery #1
Detective Ryan
navigates drug overdoses, a mysterious foot on the beach and a long-buried cold
case.
Detective Ramesh Ryan's career with Sydney's prestigious Organized Crime Unit
is on the up, until he loses a court case against the city's most powerful drug
dealer. In disgrace, the detective is relocated to the tiny Australian beach
town of Barton.
It is off-season in Barton-when its few criminals usually take a well-earned
rest. But not this year! With the detective's arrival, the town suddenly
becomes murder central. Two bodies are discovered in the space of days, both
victims of drug overdoses. Then a mysterious foot is found washed up on the
beach, and memories are awoken of an unsolved cold case of the teenager who
disappeared fifteen years ago. Add to this a blossoming romance, along with a
contract taken out on Ryan's life, and it's clear that the detective has jumped
out of the Sydney frying pan into the Barton fire.
What follows is an action-packed adventure, thrilling at every turn-where truth
and lies are almost impossible to separate, and unexpected twists are the order
of the day.

GUEST POST
Can you, for those who don't know you already, tell something about yourself and how you became an author?
I took a series of slow steps to become an author. I began my career as a journalist. Then I got into writing and directing TV drama and films. Finally, I took the plunge into becoming an author by writing children’s book. I then progressed to thrillers.
What is something unique/quirky about you?
I don’t have a nail on my right little toe. It was taken off when I was a kid in the mistaken belief that its removal would stop me walking like a duck. Unfortunately, it was only a partial solution.
Tell us something really interesting that's happened to you!
When I was younger, I hitchhiked around Italy with my girlfriend and ran out of money when I arrived in Pisa --- home of the leaning tower. As night drew in, we were approached by a guy in a car who offered to put us up overnight. Being naïve I decided it was safer that we did this instead of sleeping in the local park, which was known to be dangerous. However, when we arrived at his home --- a big apartment block --- we realized we had made a huge mistake. We turned down his offer of a shower and were taken to a bedroom that had bars on the window. Neither of us slept that night, and, lying awake I heard the man walking past our bedroom several times before stopping to listen. In the morning we refused his offer of breakfast and rushed out of the block. In the light of day, we discovered that the large building was actually empty and run down --- his unit being the only one occupied. To this day I don’t know whether we were really in mortal danger from a serial killer or being helped out by a kind good Samaritan.
What are some of your pet peeves?
Unfortunately, the older I’ve got the more pet peeves I have accumulated, so, in answering this question, I could go on and on. However, I’ll try to keep it short. Some of my pet peeves include people who eat on public transport --- the smell of badly cooked burgers makes me want to retch; babies who cry all the time on long flights--- I know it’s not their fault but that’s really no consolation; people who throw litter on the ground; loud chewing; people who talk in movies; slow internet… I’ll stop there. I think that’s way more than enough.
Where were you born/grew up at?
I am a true cockney since I was born in London within the sound of Bow Bells.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
Optimistic; energetic; curious; a risk taker.
Who is your hero and why?
More heroes than hero --- people who are always kind to others
What kind of world ruler would you be?
I don’t really believe anyone should be a world ruler, as the title smacks of autocracy. We have to many power obsessed politicians.
What are you passionate about these days?
I don’t know whether you could describe it as a passion, but staying alive is something I spend a lot of time concentrating on.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
My unwinding and relaxing focuses revolves around doing as little as possible.
Do you have a favorite movie?
There are too many to just pick out one.
Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Either of my Detective Ryan mysteries – Off Season or All or None --- would also make excellent TV series. My sci-fi Kill Code would make a good film.
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
I choose a cat as my spirit animal since they have many of the traits I admire --- self-reliance, a willingness to explore the unknown, a balance between wildness and domesticity, adaptability, and the desire to ignore BS from anyone.
