What
inspired me to write Skipping Christmas:
Expectations,
in a nutshell. The whole idea of people’s expectations. And the
shock, and
story fun of not
having them fulfilled. :)
What
happens when a man is a total player, wrapped up in himself and the
horizons he must conquer? And more, what happens when he changes, and
decides to come back? And believes he knows, deep in his heart, that
he can 100% count on the woman he left behind to be waiting, arms
open, when he’s finally ready to settle down?
Well,
listen up, dude. Yank that 100% certainty down to 99%. Because you
can never be 100 totally sure of another person.
And
in that one percent, and the uncertainly of it, is ALL the fun.
And
in it also lies the life experience that’s going to knock you back
on your fine hiney.
In
Skipping Christmas, Dante Knight believes
he can count on Kelley, the girl who always, unfailingly advocated
for him, to be ready and waiting for him when he finally decides to
come back to their little mountain town of Terrence Point, British
Columbia, to claim her. Life has taught him some harsh lessons, and
he's figured out what's important. And based on how she’s been in
the past, wearing her heart on her sleeve for him, so all
there
for him, he's not worried about the reception she's going to give
him. That bit isn't even on his mind.
He
just knows
she’s still the same gal. And he’s confident in that, as he comes
back for her. Can’t wait to feel her arms wrap around him as she
jumps into his, and croons sweet nothings into his ear.
Only…she’s
not.
Kelley
feels she’s been burned being the always faithful, good girl. And
it hasn’t just been her experience with Dante that's led her to
that realization. A couple of additional, serious life shocks have
happened, and she's decided a new life path is in order.
And
surprise of surprises! She's now decided to adopt Dante's
credo.
She’s decided she’s going to be a player now, herself. And if
that means being a somewhat self-centered, me-first, all
about the sex and fun for me me me
gal—that’s what she’s going to do. It worked for Dante, didn’t
it?
In
effect, they’ve totally changed roles. And I absolutely love that
dynamic, and the utter disbelief that ensues, on both sides.
Neither
is prepared for how the other person has become, essentially, who
they
were in the past.
Ha!
In
that is all the fun, as well as the questions that follow. Will they
stick to their new personas? Will they end up together?
I
love the shock of the man, as the woman flexes her wings, and her
power.
And
I also respect the process she has to go through, as she determines
for herself…has he really changed? Can I go back and trust in being
the person of my heart?
Sparks
fly, of course. Surprises are endless. And in the end, hearts have to
sit back, think, and then…make their decisions.
This
dynamic is what inspired me to write Skipping Christmas, and to have
so much fun with it.
