Love On the Wind

A Montuak Romance Book 2

An uptight builder. A quirky reality TV travel show host. An explosive passion that surprises them both in this sexy Hamptons romance.

Six years of traveling for her reality TV series has left Kiley Nelson, a dedicated career woman, longing for a place to call her own. Spending a weekend at her girlfriend’s beach house is the perfect reprieve, especially when she purchases property to finally settle down. But her peaceful escape is shaken when she smashes into a car containing the sinfully sexy and infuriated passenger, Jeff Hammond, who immediately melts her heart.

Jeff, staying at his friend’s Montauk home to relax after a trying week of building a home for a spoiled diva, doesn’t count on sharing his weekend with the flaky, yet incredibly sexy, Kiley. He agrees to build her house, despite the tug on his heart as Kiley turns him on in every delicious way.

Passionate weekends and shared dreams begin to shape the house they start to build together as Jeff begins to realize his dream of becoming an architect. As their relationship deepens, so do the wounds from past hurts, rousing ghosts from Jeff’s traumatic past when his fiancé cheated on him with his brother. When a summer storm rolls in at the nearly complete house, they’re forced to deal with the past before it shakes and cracks the very foundation they’ve built.

Misunderstanding and stubborn personalities threaten to rip apart the fledgling relationship until both Kiley and Jeff learn to trust one another and are given a second chance at love.

GUEST POST

Writing Advice

My inspiration to begin the journey myself came from the leader of my writer’s group more than two decades ago. His words delivered me from the desire to tell my story to the creation of a book. He kicked me in the seat of my pants, and I landed in front of my computer where I spent every spare moment finishing a novel that had languished in a file cabinet drawer for fifteen years. How did he do it? He yelled at our writers’ group when none of us had brought the assigned writing practice from the month before. We all had excuses, just like the ones we’d used at the previous meeting. At the time, I was teaching high school English, so my excuse was particularly adept—my students had taught me well. No matter. He let it rip.

“Either you’re a writer or you’re not. Stop making excuses. Writers write, and if you don’t do that, you’re not a writer.” He slammed some papers on the table in front of him and left the room. The others exited the meeting, vowing never to return. Despite my shock, I heard him, and I went home and began to write. Within six months, I had finished the novel, and within another six months, a small publisher made my dream come true with the publication of my first book.

Writers write. Simple. Precise. And so very true.

Writing Advice to My Younger Self

I would tell my younger self to be patient with the process and keep expectations reasonable. The Oprah dream really derailed me for a few years. I was perpetually disappointed and would have to pull my chin off the floor and sit my rear end back in the chair and start all over again. I have no such illusions today. I write for myself. I would also tell my younger self to write about things that inspire me or fascinate me. Good writing always results.

A Writer on Reading

Folks often tell me they want to write a book, too. They have a story to tell. I ask questions about what they like to read. If they tell me they like horror stories but want to write romances, I tell them to start reading romances. Study the genre of what you want to write.

But then there are those who tell me they don’t read but they want to write a book. I firmly believe that writers must first and foremost must be readers. Study the craft. Read the masters. Even a poorly written book can be instructive.

I started out as an avid reader. My father used to accuse me of faking the flu whenever I wanted to finish a book rather than go to school. He’s probably right. And I most likely learned more form that book than I ever did a full day in school.

Do your family and friends support your career as a writer?

I credit my daughter, an artist, for giving me the courage to leave my teaching career to write fulltime. When I was first considering the leap, she was a freshman in college. She told me to have faith because I knew how to survive know matter what happened.

My husband loves everything I write and reads my books with great interest, but with a critical eye. A few friends and a family member here and there are loyal fans. The rest just ignore me. I think they’re under the impression this is just a hobby like refinishing furniture. So, I don’t say much. Every once in a while one of them surprises me by telling me they enjoyed something I wrote.

What surprised me the most about becoming a writer

I discovered early in my life as a novelist that I loved doing research. It’s so much fun to learn new things, and then incorporate real events or facts into a work of fiction. However, beginning writers must be careful. It’s too tempting to do “research dumps” in books thinking the readers need to know everything you’ve learned. Not so. The writer needs the information to create the mood, tone, characters, and conflict to make it believable and interesting to the reader, but not all of that needs to literally make its way onto the page.

She has contributed short fiction to the shared universe fantasy series Thieves World, in which she created the Sacred Band of Stepsons, a mythical unit of ancient fighters modeled on the Sacred Band of Thebes. She created, orchestrated, and edited the Bangsian fantasy series Heroes in Hell, writing stories for the series as well as co-writing the related novel, The Little Helliad, with Chris Morris. She wrote the bestselling Silistra Quartet in the 1970s, including High Couch of Silistra, The Golden Sword, Wind from the Abyss, and The Carnelian Throne. This quartet had more than four million copies in Bantam print alone, and was translated into German, French, Italian, Russian and other languages. In the 1980s, Baen Books released a second edition of this landmark series. The third edition is the Author's Cut edition, newly revised by the author for Perseid Press. Most of her fiction work has been in the fantasy and science fiction genres, although she has also written historical and other novels. Morris has written, contributed to, or edited several book-length works of non-fiction, as well as papers and articles on nonlethal weapons, developmental military technology and other defense and national security topics.

Janet says: 'People often ask what book to read first. I recommend "I, the Sun" if you like ancient history; "The Sacred Band," a novel, if you like heroic fantasy; "Lawyers in Hell" if you like historical fantasy set in hell; "Outpassage" if you like hard science fiction; "High Couch of Silistra" if you like far-future dystopian or philosophical novels. I am most enthusiastic about the definitive Perseid Press Author's Cut editions, which I revised and expanded.'

I was born to a diplomat and housewife in Tehran-Iran then whisked across the globe to whatever country my parents had been assigned to. Raised to appreciate various cultures, landscapes, languages, and viewpoints, my life was one grand adventure until a revolution took place in my country and turned our lives upside down. Between then and the age of eighteen I had experienced both the joy, freedom, and magic our world offers as well as wars, deprivation, and oppression. My undergraduate studies were in the Middle East and my post graduate studies were at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France.

So, when did I become a writer? Books had always been my greatest friends, teachers, refuge, and the inspiration to forge my own future. In college I realized I wanted to write engaging mysteries and thrillers. At the same time, I wanted to give readers more than a story. I wanted to share the rich beauty of Persian literature as well as that of other cultures. For that I embarked on a twenty-two-year journey, traveling to various countries, and experiencing life while establishing a successful career. Gabriel McKnight and his first story had been on my mind for several years yet it wasn’t until my mid-forties that I picked up the proverbial pen. The time had come to share my stories.

The next step was making my dream come true. I queried several agents and one glorious day in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic my wonderful literary agent reached out to me with an offer for representation. She took my story to publishers and before I knew it, we had a publishing contract –and here we are.

Today, I live in Oklahoma City, USA with my family and two dogs. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s the power of words. Words can heal, teach, entertain, inspire, and evoke change. I hope you enjoy Gabriel’s adventures as much as I enjoyed writing them.

GUEST POST

Fun facts about me (that you might not find anywhere else)

As I share in a lot of my blog posts, I was born in a small town. My parents both worked their entire careers in the medical field. My mom was a registered nurse who spent the majority of her career in geriatric care (nursing homes.) Her love for others and the way she cares for them served as a great inspiration for Sadie’s mom in the new series. Interestingly enough, she has teased me for years about writing female characters who don’t have good relationships with their mothers. She would narrow her gaze and say, “Are you trying to tell me something?” To which I always replied with a laugh, “No, mom.  If they got along great with everyone, including their parents, there would be no drama. And what story doesn’t have some drama??!!” So for my mom (who I have a great relationship with, by the way), I decided Sadie’s family drama could be with another member of the family and she and her parents would have a strong, supportive relationship.

Let’s see, I started going to a private, Christian school when I was in 7th grade.  After my mom witnessed a drug deal in the parking lot of the school I was attending, she decided my sister and I needed to be educated elsewhere. She and my dad worked hard and sacrificed to afford the tuition so I worked hard in return and graduated co-valedictorian of my class at age 16.  Lest anyone get the wrong impression that I’m super smart, I’ll stop you right there.  I’d say I was of average intelligence possessing a gift for knowing what teachers liked to read in essays and worked very hard. I also had a knack for picking classes that helped me earn the credits necessary to accumulate for graduation. I didn’t go on to Harvard or anything like that. Instead, I went to a local community college and got my associates degree in secretarial science, specializing in the legal field.  I won’t regale you with any more tales of my education journey other than to tell you I went back to college after I got married (at age 19) and had a baby (at age 20) to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management.

I’ve been married to my real world hero for 36 years now and we just have the one child, who is now married and has gifted me the sweetest little grandson ever. Both my daughter and her husband (and now their child) are only children so it makes for some interesting dynamics in their household.

For fun, I love to sing karaoke and perform every year in a variety show hosted by the neighborhood I live in. We do four shows in three nights and it is a way we build community.  Perhaps if Sadie’s story continues, we’ll have a book that is centered around the show.

I also have my red-black belt in taekwondo and would love some day to get my black belt. However, as it’s been a very long time since I’ve studied the martial art, I fear the time it would take me to get back up to speed and learn all I needed to in order to achieve that might not be in the cards. Although, one never knows what the future holds!

With starting piano lessons when I was in elementary school, I loved playing and my initial dream was to be a concert pianist and play at Carnegie Hall. Being a realist, I knew the likelihood of that was slim to none and I enjoy eating to much to be a starving artist (hence why I still have a day job while pursuing my writing career 😉) Being a wife, mom, employee, and student left little time for such things, but I’m happy to report that my husband encouraged me to procure a keyboard in December of 2024 that has the “real feel” keys and I’ve set aside time a couple times a week to begin playing again. It does my soul good to hear the music again.

I think that’s enough fun facts/secrets for one sharing session  - thanks for hanging out with me.

Title: Unwrapping Deviance

Author: Airicka Phoenix

Genre: Dark Forbidden Romance
Publication Date: Dec. 17th, 2024

Hosted by: Lady Amber’s Reviews & PR

Blurb:

It's not what you think.

I didn't set out to fall obsessively in love with my fake stepdad ... or his twin brother. I wasn't looking to love anyone.

Daniel and Christian know I'm cursed. They know people I love die violently and still they won't let me go. They consume and devour my every breathing moment. I am so addicted to the dark and depraved things they do to me — make me do — I can't leave even if I want to.

But they're not perfect. Their past is a twisted, bloody mess. A horrific nightmare of betrayal, death and a town steeped so deep in evil, only fire can cleanse it. But that nightmare is what we have to face.

A whole weekend isolated with the two men I can't keep my hands off would have been a dream if the people of Jefferson weren't hell-bent on revenge.

They're about to find out that I have nothing to lose and I will kill anyone who touches what belongs to me. Daniel and Christian MacAllister are mine and nothing short of death will stop me from protecting them.

Only problem — even I might not be strong enough to stop the evil chasing them. There's a good chance we may not make it out of this alive.
