The Rogue's Ring

A Treasure Tale Novel #3

by Nancy Lee Badger

Genre: Historical Romance

Heading out on his horse, Ghost, into the snowy Highlands of Scotland in January 1817 was not sane, but Bryce Ketteridge would never let down his friends. If a duke, an earl, and a former spy felt finding the owners of nobleman’s rings was important, he would do his share. Coming across masked bandits, and shooting one, turned his life on end. What follows was not in his plans.

The last thing Cat Douglas wished to do was steal coins from the handsome stranger she meets at a tavern. When he later shoots her while she threatened a nobleman’s coach, she suspected he had no idea it was her. Kidnapped boys, pirate threats, and murder propel them to save a boy named Blake. He was, after all, special to them both.

The Rogue’s Ring by Nancy Lee Badger

Witchcraft

Although neither my heroine, nor my hero practice witchcraft, I show several sides of Scottish
witchery that my research claimed was alive and well during the early 19 th century. Using
characters in my new book, The Rogue’s Ring, I hint at a witch that helps a man protect his
filled-to-the-gills home (think hoarder). He feels everything he owns is priceless. Only later does
my hero, Bryce, suspect that an old woman who owns a village store has the ability to ‘know
things’. Most would call her a seer.
Later in the story, my heroine, Cat, relates a tale about how she planned to steal butter from a
shop, (Cat is a pirate, you see) but the seer called out to her to say the storekeeper was expecting
her and wants to be paid.
Adding small scenes that include a seer and tidbits about witchcraft does not make this book in
my Treasure Tales series a paranormal story, but adding such things only enhances the plot. You
can feel this when the seer warns my hero that a boy is in danger.
I found a few interesting historical facts in a book called Wicca & Witchcraft for Dummies by
Diane Smith. I also took a class years ago about historical oddities concerning Scotland. Unusual
historical ‘facts’ can be found everywhere on-line and I find that research can be fun. You will
never know what might make it into your next book.

Wishes aren't all they're cracked up to be... especially when you have to capture the Fairies who grant them to you.

Er... make that faeries... and not the normal, hiding-in-plain-sight magical kind.

When a misadventure cleaning out the attic leads Isaac to release a faerie trapped in a glass ball of light, he believes he's struck gold--in the form of wishes. All he has to do is mention the name that was engraved on the ball, and the indebted faerie would grant him any three wishes he wanted.

The best part of all was knowing that there was an entire chest of captured faeries waiting to be freed...

But when strange things start to happen around town, Isaac begins to wonder if the increasingly unfortunate events are his doing.

Only his mysterious neighbor, Yara, knows the truth about his lineage as a Light Keeper.

Can Yara's strength and wisdom guide Isaac into his new role?

Can Isaac make things right again?
