Forgive the Trespassers
by Vickie Phelps
Genre: Inspirational Fiction
Fast forward twenty-five years. Jake receives a letter from a local land developer stating the property willed to him by his aunt and uncle will be destroyed and used for other purposes unless he returns and sells the land and house. A long-ago promise to his aunt and uncle that he would always keep the property in the family comes back to haunt him. Now he needs to return and keep his promise, but that means coming face to face with the two people who betrayed him twenty-five years ago.

GUEST POST
Q: Where were you born/grew up at?
I was born in a small town in the Texas Panhandle. Although I’m sure many people enjoy city life and feel like a small town doesn’t have much to offer, I’ve never regretted living in a small town. Everyone knew everyone else, and you could ask anyone for help. Small town values like family, hard work, patriotism, and God helped shape me into the person I am today.

Q: Which of your novels can you imagine made into a movie?
Several people have told me they think my first novel, “Postmark From the Past” should be a movie. I also think “Forgive the Trespassers” would make a good movie.

Q: Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
Most of the time I’m working on more than one project. This year, I’ve worked on four different books in various stages of writing plus the edits for “Forgive the Trespassers.” I like having more than one project going because sometimes I come to a spot in a book and I’m unsure which direction I need to take the story, or I’m frustrated with the way it’s going or get what some call writers block. At those times, I need to take a break from the story I’m working on, but I don’t stop writing. I just work on another book project for a while.

Q: Pen or typewriter or computer?
When I first started writing, I had an electric typewriter. Some of you may not even know what it’s like to work on a typewriter, but that’s how I started. A few years later, I bought my first computer. Some writers write manuscripts out in longhand first, but I write directly on the computer. There are also times when I like to use a pen/pencil. One of those times is when I write poetry. I write poetry in a journal and use a pencil so I can erase a word or line whenever I like. If I decide to submit a poem for publication, then I transfer it to the computer.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in “Forgive the Trespassers”?
The main characters are Jake Reynolds, Marilyn Baker, Kay Carter, and Dale Summers. The four of them spend a lot of time together and develop a bond, but the choices of two of them will affect all four.
Jake Reynolds grew up an only child to a struggling couple. He often felt as though his parents didn’t really want him. His mother blamed him for her health issues because his birth was a difficult one and she never got over it. His best friend is Dale Summers, the rich kid in town. They two of them are inseparable. Jake is head over heels in love with Marilyn Baker.
Marilyn Baker has grown up under the verbal abuse of a domineering father. She can’t wait to marry Jake Reynolds, the love of her life.
Kay Carter is Marilyn’s best friend. Like Jake and Dale, the two of them are inseparable and share everything. Kay carries a secret that few people know except for Marilyn.
Dale Summers, the rich kid in town, loves Jake like the brother he’s never had. He’ll do anything for Jake and Jake will do the same for him. Dale’s privileged upbringing has not made him feel as though he’s better than anyone else. He has a giving heart and is willing to lend help when needed.
