haunting him, he doesn’t dare commit to anything more. But keeping her at arm’s
length is more difficult than he bargained for.
Kristy Winslow has no desire to date again, since her last relationship went

on the chopping block. In addition, the teenage boy who broke her heart one
summer a decade ago has turned into a handsome cowboy who’s planning on buying
her family’s ranch with a lowball offer and her parents’ blessing. She’s got to

her. With Christmas on the horizon, things take an unexpected turn that will

GUEST POST
The Symbol of Sunflowers
In my latest book, The Cowboy’s Country Charm, Rusty Russell picks sunflowers for Kristy Winslow, the woman he is falling for. This is not particularly in character for this former air force pararescuer and reluctant cowboy.
Did you know that sunflowers are native to both North and South America and were seen by native people as good luck and a way to ward off evil spirits because of both the beauty of the flower and the edible seeds the flower provided. Poor Rusty needs all the good luck he can get.
In a Greek myth linked to sunflowers, a nymph named Clytie was in love with the Sun God, Helios. He returned her love, for a while, but then he turned to another nymph–an age-old story. Jealous, Clytie told the other nymphs' father, who then buried his daughter alive (pretty harsh) as punishment for falling for Helios. Helios was angry enough with Clytie that he turned her into a sunflower, a member of the heliotrope plant family. But, Clytie’s love for Helios was so strong, every day she watched him move across the sky just like the face of a sunflower follows the sun.
Because of the color and the sun-shape of the flower, sunflowers have become symbols of warmth, positivity, and joy. All things that both Rusty and Kristy could use in their lives.
And because sunflowers turn their faces to the sun and follow the sun as it crosses the sky, sunflowers have also become a symbol of loyalty and devotion in romantic relationships. They symbolize a promise of commitment and to always be there for someone. Did Rusty realize the statement he was making to Kristy when he picked those sunflowers? The subconscious is often at play in matters of the heart.
