*Book Tour & Giveaway* Ghosts of Border House-GUEST POST

Experience centuries of Scottish hospitality—whether you're breathing or not.

Series Intro:

Border House has stood on the River Tweed since 1100, witnessing centuries of Scottish history and accumulating many permanent residents along the way. This ancient fortified manor, once a hunting lodge and defensive tower, now serves as both a charming hotel and an unintentional retirement home for spirits who can’t or won’t move on to the next realm.

The house is home to a medieval king, a turncoat scribe, a lonesome English soldier, two Victorian ladies, one unhappy go-go girl, a Scottish Brewmaster, and more. Each ghost brings their own quirks, complaints, and centuries-old drama to daily life at Border House. Whether you’re a living guest checking in for the weekend or a long-dead resident who’s been here for ages, everyone has a story to tell.

Welcome to Border House—where checkout time is optional, and some guests have been extending their stay for centuries.

This series features standalone paranormal romances written by various authors.

Vanessa Victoria Kilmer told her first story to an angel who visited her when she was locked in a dark, medieval attic at the age of four.

She grew up in the Salzburg region of Austria, surrounded by fortified castles, primal salt mines, and the drama of ancient places.

Her fiction teems with murder, magic, and madness. She explores the abuse inflicted by those closest to us and the various ways people deal with the damage.

She currently lives in northern Florida with her daughter, son-in-law, grandson and two black cats. Between writing novels, she paints, takes pictures with her white camera named Traitor and embroiders tapestries.

GUEST POST

A bit about Vanessa Victoria Kilmer and her new book Love Lost and Found

I grew up in the Bavaria-Salzburg area of Europe (think Sound of Music). The building I lived in was over 900 years old, with walls of stone two feet thick and surrounded by raging rivers, Alpine peaks and castles. Everything was haunted, and fairytales were just memories. I played in mountain streams, salt mines, and ice caves, so fantasy came easy to my imagination.

The Ghosts of Border House series takes place in a manor built in the 12th century and it sits on the border between Scotland and England, in a mountainous, forested area, so our setting is perfect for all kinds of ‘bather’ as the Scottish would say. We’ve got over 900 years of passion, death, intrigue and troubles to mine for story gold.

When my friend and fellow author suggested we do a series like the Ghost TV series, I knew she had come up with a great idea.

I wanted to tell a story about an ordinary couple affected by the life of Mary, Queen of Scots. Sara Mae Stuart and Thomas Kincaid are servants at Border House, in essence, a vacation spot for nobility. The machinations around the Scottish court tore them apart when Mary became pregnant by her second husband, with the future King of England.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I got a kick out of the image of Thomas making ruffs, the frilly neck ornamentations famous in the 16th century, but to the living they look like someone is leaving doilies all around the manor.

What are your top 10 favorite books/authors?

I still have my first two books, which are made of cardboard and bound with metal rings.

Then there are my German versions of Aschenputtel (Cinderella) by the Brothers Grimm (the original version) with gorgeous illustrations by Erika Klein and Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann

Jane Eyre - Charlotte Brontë

The Wolf and the Dove Kathleen E. Woodiwiss

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley,

The Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart

How long have you been writing?

In sixth grade, I had an assignment to write a paper about a trip. We were to document it as if we had actually traveled to our destination. I chose Mexico. My teacher said she felt like she had gone on my vacation with me. I was hooked.

Pen, or typewriter or computer?  I write on everything, everywhere  — phone, laptop, paper, napkins, my hand: you won’t remember that great idea later so write it down.

I am fond of romantic writerly things. I own a typewriter made the year I was born, several quill and nib pens, inkwells and my favorite, bright green LAMY pen which writes so smoothly.

Advice they would give new authors?

Tell your story, your way. And as cliché as it is, it’s true: write. Put words on paper. And do it the way that works for you. Don’t let rules stop you.

What are they currently reading? The Inheritance (Breach Wars Book 1) by Ilona Andrews My favorite contemporary authors (wife and husband team.)
