What inspired you to write this book?
Short answer, I dreamed about a dress, so I wrote the description, characters and then scene. The long answer is that I did dream about a dress, a wedding gown. I wanted to know more about it, and since I cannot draw one, I wrote it out. Then the woman who was wearing it came forward and why she had it on, which was much more than just a wedding. Then the scene itself played out, where I learned she had been poisoned. From that moment forward Emerald told me what she wanted to say and to whom.
What can we expect from you in the future?
I am working on an American / Chinese Contemporary Romance. I have never done straight contemporary before, so that’s new. Also, it seems that it may not be in First POV which is really weird for me. I am going to just write what comes and see how it all plays out.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in La Roe’s Curse?
This question is why character sheets are so important…
Emerald is over 300 years old; she was cursed on her wedding day by her groom and has been spending the last several hundred years trying to survive. Curing herself has never really been her focus, as far as she can tell nothing can kill her short of decapitation, and she is not likely to allow that. She owns her business, sets her hours and for the most part is very self-reliant. The only one in her life that knows about her is Katie, her employee and close friend. Emerald does not like asking for help but when Katie is in danger, she seeks out Max, her competitor.
Max is a werewolf who also happens to have his own detective agency. Max has both respect and aggravation towards Emerald. He thinks that she can do more than she has been, and it upsets him when she pulls further away. Max is in for a slight surprise at how little he knows about the woman who haunts him at night.
Stephen, what can we say about him…? He is Emerald’s Husband; he is the one who cursed her. He is also the only one that can save her. Stephen is much older than Emerald and has had a hard life up to meeting her and beyond. He comes across as the villain for much of the story. However, not everything is as it seems.
How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book? Where did you come up with the names in the story?
I name all my characters based on their characteristics. Emerald La Roe has green eyes and red hair. Stephan has black hair and blue eyes. I scour through baby name books, websites, and meaning of words, until I find the one that matches or slaps me in the face.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Tell us about your main characters- what makes them tick?
How did you come up with the title of your first novel?
La Roe’s is my first novel. 😊 The title as mentioned comes from her name and the characters family history.
Who designed your book covers?
Cindy Wieczorek who also happens to by my editor.

Did you learn anything during the writing of your recent book?
I have been working on edits for a story previously written, we are adding a new character to the story line and it has proven that this is going to be a major rewrite. While trying to work on this one, a new story has been driving me nuts, so instead of fighting it, I have been taking time to write out stuff as it comes. Its been a long time since a character spoke to me as much as this one is.
If your book was made into a film, who would you like to play the lead?
Kate Beckinsale is one of my favorite actresses.
How did you come up with name of this book?
The name came from the main heroine, her last name is La Roe and since the story would not exist without her … The rewrite name was altered by my children. They kept asking me “La Roe’s what?” hence La Roe’s Curse came to existence.
What is your favorite part of this book and why?
I don’t know that it is my favorite part but the scene with Emerald, Max and Katie is definitely one of the more emotional ones.
If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
Perhaps Max, so I could ask him what he was thinking by hijacking Emerald’s emotions. Or perhaps I would talk with Katie, she was a key character but did not live very long. I think maybe understanding what she would have wanted in her life. Did she have any regrets?
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Imagination for sure but what character does not have some trait or another from someone the author knows or has met.
Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
Definitely highjacked! You have met Max, right? He was never meant to be a main character to the story, but he is and a pivotal one at that. I thought that he would be an antagonist but also motivational to her growth as a character. He is and does, but then he became so much more. I can remember arguing in my head with Emerald stating the fact that he’s getting to close to her. She of course responded… its my story so tell it the way I want.
Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
The emotions conveyed through this story are not only vivid to the characters but also to those that have read the book. When it was originally written it was nominated for a Golden Rose Award. Now that it has been redone with much better editing, I feel that it is a story that can carry you away and take you deeper into their world.
Have you written any other books that are not published?
Yes, I have a couple that are a part of a series if I can ever get past the rewrite.
If your book had a candle, what scent would it be?
Roses definitely. The main female character, Emerald La Roe, uses roses through out the story, has a connection with them and her name means La Roe – The Red.
What did you edit out of this book?
Is there a writer which brain you would love to pick for advice? Who would that be and why?
Charlaine Harris! I loved her Sookie Series and Harper Connelly series. I have spoken with her via email and during a live chat before. She is as sweet as she is talented. I will never forget how comfortable she made everyone feel. I learned a valuable lesson during that live chat, remember your readers are friends of your work. Listen, interact and appreciate them.
