What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
With Axe and Flex I used my own emotional experiences for both these books. Axe is semi-autobiographical I used my own diary, real life events and put it into Axe.
With Bear, I did loads of research, books, websites and I was allowed to use my friends experience for Bears story. Tinheads story I didn’t want it to actually go the way it did but I did loads more research into this as it was completely walking blind I used some of my family members experiences, but I watched tons of documentaries, short films, long films and true life story films and went on several charity sites to make sure I was accurate with such a sensitive subject. So yes you could say I’m very thorough.
Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I use music to inspire me so I either have music blasting in my earbud or out of my laptop in my writing cavern. (spare room) So I know a lot of author have certain songs in their playlist where with me I can’t choose; I’m too indecisive. But I tend to have certain artists for my characters so for Dagger for instance he loves Black Sabbath, so I had them on repeat with The White Buffalo (love him), then with Kelly I had Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Luis Fonsi and Demi Lovato on repeat when writing her scenes.
What are your favorite authors?
I won’t number them as it’s too damn hard, but I will tell you the authors book I could read over and over I love them but 10 is so hard but here are some of my favs. Jordan Marie, Aleisha Marie, Sylvia Day, Jaci J, Georgia Le Carre, Geri Glenn, S. Courtney, Jodi Ellen Malpas, Sherri Hayes, Bella Jewel, Stephenie Meyer, Chelle Bliss, Ryan Michelle,
What is your writing process? For instance do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?
I kind of do both if I have an idea for a story come to me, I jot it down and then roughly outline what I want to happen in the book ie like big events. Then look at the first handful of chapters to see how I want them to play out and I let the characters have free range when writing sometimes certain chapters have merged into one or been shifted later on in the book. I tend to have certain scenes, conversations with my characters that come to me and I don’t know when they are going to fit into the book.
Advice they would give new authors?
