Vampires 101: The Tranquilli Bloodline
By Celia Breslin
The Basics:
My vampires are undead, sensitive to sun and silver, can only survive on human blood, and possess a basic set of vamp-y skills including heightened senses and super strength. They can glamour and compel weak-minded humans and vampires but cannot glamour or compel werewolves.
The Hierarchy:
The governing tribunal for all vampire-kind originates in and operates from Italy. Vampires worldwide organize themselves in gangs and refer to themselves as cosca, Italian for “gang” or “clan.” Each cosca has a leader - capo or capa - with a right and left hand (aka second and third in command), followed by soldiers (fourth, fifth, etc.). The Tranquilli cosca is the most powerful of them all, first in line and answerable only to the Tribunal. Carina’s father runs the Tribunal.
Age Equals Power:
Vampires under one hundred are weaker than their older counterparts. The ancients can hurt/kill/torture with power alone, though they do love to get physical. Elder vamps can communicate telepathically with members within their own cosca and can also mind chat with other older vamps regardless of cosca affiliation. Some of the older ones can also fly and often possess a unique skill not necessarily associated with vampirism. As one of them puts it, “Gifted in life. Gifted in death.”
In the Name of Love:
Whether they sport the label Good or Evil in the Tranquilli Bloodline universe, my vampires are passionate, fiercely protective, possessive and loyal. Just how far will these creatures go to protect the ones they love? Read the trilogy and find out!
Xo,
Celia
