Excerpt:
With a shake of her head, she runs her slender fingers through the damp, auburn waves that now spill over her pale shoulders and down her bare breasts, like streams of dark blood on an alabaster sculpture. She lifts her chin, the curve of her smooth neck, vulnerable. She studies her reflection in the mirror. Pouting, her full lips with downward corners, she fusses with her hair. Maybe she considers going brown. Perhaps she envisions a new shorter look. She lets her uncertainty out in one slow breath, flips her hair back past her shoulders and tilts her head at her mirror image. Then cupping her breasts in her hands, she frowns. Too small. Abandoning the tiny birds nestled in her fingers, she runs her unmanicured nails downward and prods the puffy flesh near her navel. The frown deepens. She pulls at the skin, stretching it to create an illusion of firmness. Maybe a tummy tuck? She huffs as her shoulders slump. Lifting a robe from its hook, she pulls the soft cotton fabric into a warm embrace against her silken skin. She turns and leaves. So much uncertainty. So much self-doubt. So much she doesn’t know.
She doesn’t know that I watch her.
She thinks she’s alone.
She thinks she’s safe.
She’s not.

My Review
After The Wanting was an interesting read. It does remind me a great deal of You, but this story is more poetic. The stalker has a sense of artistry to his actions, which I truly enjoyed. This book is told by the stalker’s pov, but you still get a good sense about what is going on with Rachel, “victim”, you can call her. As a reader I was able to feel the stalker’s passion for his person of fixation, but at the same time Rachel was shown to have her flaws. Which made the whole story more realistic. Over all a good, suspenseful read, and if you liked You, then you will love After The Wanting.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Elmer Seward was born and raised along the Chesapeake Bay in southeast Virginia. When he was growing up, the cemetery behind his house was his playground. The metaphorical theme of death and rebirth that figures prominently in his novels is probably influenced in some way by the time that his mother heard, through the screened window, a small voice crying for help. Rushing from the house and through the yard, she discovered her all-too-curious six-year-old son at the bottom of a freshly dug grave. In that moment, he discovered that trouble is much easier to get into than it is to get out of. Sometimes we need help getting out of the hole that we jump into willingly.
He is blessed to have a large blended family and is the reluctant servant of two crazy dogs, a Cocker Spaniel and a BruMaltChiYorkie (don't ask). All of these strongly influence the characters and events in his novels; however, his beautiful wife, Mitzi, is the true inspiration for the tender hearted but determined women in his stories.
