Kill for You: The Playlist

The playlist for Kill for You is a bit different. Faith spent most of her life with people who weren't kind to her. Her mother was abusive, and then she was imprisoned by a cartel-owned gang. So naturally, her story has some dark spots. While there are a few sadder songs on the playlist, I mostly found myself listening to a mix of things while writing this one. The playlist includes everything from blues to rap to pop.

You can check out the playlist and some of my favorites below.


Hollywood's Bleeding by Post Malone – I love Post Malone, and I especially love this song. It fits really well given that Los Angeles is in the midst of a gang war in this book.

Unforgettable by French Montana ft. Swae Lee – I love the beat to this song. It's very calming, which was nice during really intense scenes.

Hold You Down by X Ambassadors – This song is a perfect fit for Octavio. He's steadfast and resolute, unyielding in his support of and loyalty to Faith. He's exactly what she needs, exactly when she needs it most, but he isn't in her face all the time. He's just quietly there, helping her heal until she's ready to face her burgeoning feelings for him and her past.

River by Bishop Briggs – One of Faith's biggest fears is falling for Octavio only to lose him. This song reminds me of how hard she fights against that happening even while fighting not to admit her growing feelings for him.

Lights Down Low by Max – This is another song that reminds me of Octavio. All he wants is to keep Faith by his side and keep her safe. He doesn't need to know what she's been through to know how he feels about her.

Airplanes Pt. II by B.o.B, Hayley Williams, and Eminem – Sometimes, you just need a miracle. Faith can relate to that feeling.

Die for Me by Post Malone ft. Future and Halsey – This song reminds me a lot of Faith's relationship with her mother. The woman does some pretty terrible things to Faith, but Faith never let that break her.

White Flag by Bishop Briggs – This song is kind of badass, which is why I had to include it on the playlist. It's all about recognizing your strength and reclaiming your power…which is exactly what Faith is learning to do in Kill for You.

Worthy by Jacob Banks – This is such a powerful, gorgeous song. Faith can definitely relate to wanting to feel worthy and being afraid she isn't enough.

1-800-273-8255 by Logic ft. Alessia Cara & Khalid – This is such an incredible, but incredibly sad song. Faith can definitely relate to feeling like she doesn't matter. She disappeared for five years and, as far as she knows, no one ever looked for or missed her.

Way Down We Go by Kaleo – Kill for You deals with justice and balancing the scales when someone does wrong. Throughout the book, Octavio and Faith both grapple with questions about doing what is right versus doing what is right for them, and the utilitarian concept of whether the good of many outweighs the good of one. This fantastic bluesy song really gets to the heart of that question and the belief that, inevitably, we get what we deserve.
