The only one left on this whole miserable planet.

Daphne spends her days alone and craving answers as to why it had to be her. Why did she have to watch everyone she’d ever known and loved die a horrific death?

On her mother’s deathbed, Daphne learns long-hidden family secrets that send her on a quest across Canada to not only discover where she came from, why she survived, and who she is...but what  she is, as well.

GUEST POST

Where did the idea for this book come from?

My husband is my muse. And not just because we love and support each other, but literally because he comes up with the best ideas. I mean, mostly. Some of them are ridiculous. I still write them down so that later we can look back on them and laugh together...or sometimes, one of those ridiculous ideas will be fruitful.

Way back, hubs and I were talking about book tropes, and he made a crack about werewolf pirates in space, and we had a great laugh about it. And then for the next couple of days, it just sat in the back of my head, marinating, without me even realizing it.

And then I started outlining a story. I want to say it was like a challenge accepted kind of deal, because that would probably make me look way cooler, but alas, I am lame, and actually tried to make pirate werewolves in space a serious thing. I managed to do a pirate werewolf outline, and a space werewolf outline, and though it wasn’t both at the same time I still had a sense of accomplishment that I actually managed to make them somewhat plausible.

The lore for both of these, one historial and one futuristic, was kind of based in the same universe of wolf pack structure I’d crafted. And that structure led me to thinking about if these packs existed, then where would they be, what would they be doing...and what if the world ended and all that was left were the wolves? The rest grew from there.

In case you were wondering, yes, I still want to write werewolf pirates and werewolves in space. Because oh, they’ll be so fun. But I think I have a much better handle on it now that I’ve started crafting this world and all of the family lines within it. And I’m kinda deep in this thing, now. The original outline for Daphne’s story was projected as one novella. And here we are, five in with five more on the way (and a spin-off or two!).

But all of this was born from one off-handed joke comment, and my husband’s courage in sharing all of the ridiculous things that pop into his head instead of just the not-ridiculous ones. Thanks, Mr. Hurricane!

Ever have off-the-wall story ideas? Make sure you write them down, you never know!
