How being “extra” sparked a series idea.
Always be extra. I don’t know the first place I read those words, but they stuck with me. As a kid I was shy, kept my opinions to myself, and tried not to gather unwanted attention. Beneath all of that was the person who loved sparkles, excitement, and living life to the fullest. Now that I’m older I embrace my “extra” quirks. I own seven tiaras, too many sequin dresses, and if I think it’s something fun but outrageous then I’m down to try it.
Of course, being extra comes through in my writing. I write sexy, messy, emotional romances with imperfect characters. I fill my stories with heart, some humor, lots of drama, and just enough heat to singe the pages. My latest novel, Careless Whispers, delivers all of these elements. It’s the third book in my Jackson Falls series that focuses on a wealthy, Black family in North Carolina and all the lies, secrets and scandals that have shaped them. In Careless Whispers the head of the family business, Elaina Robidoux, clashes with her father and is fired. As she starts over, she has to work with the one guy she’s hated, Alex Tyson. It’s an enemies-to-lovers romance where both characters realize the one person they once disliked is just the right person to cherish their broken hearts.
