Since I am a panster, my characters seem to hijack the story at every turn. Just about the time I think I have the reigns of the story—off they go in another direction usually taking the rest of the characters with them. It’s frustrating at times, but I so enjoy the creative journey. Would you believe, I write chapters out of order, and scenes out of order but in the end, everything always falls into place just like magic. LOL At times I’m as amazed as my readers to the outcome of the story. Though I have to admit my characters discovery of a lighthouse on the coast was a wonderful distraction for me being stuck at home due to events of COVID19.
Take for instance in HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC, I’m happily writing along and out of the blue, Gwen sticks her hand in a painting they found in the attic of the house Brock is looking to buy. When she pulls her hand out of the picture she’s holding a poppet (kinda like a voodoo doll) from back in 1793. Where the heck did that come from, I had no idea.
I was so stymied I got up from the computer and took my dog for a walk hoping figure out what would happen next. About a mile and a half through the walk, Gwen, my heroine, not so gently entered my thoughts and told me exactly what happened and why. Suddenly, my paranormal romance with a spark of mystery now has an element of time travel. I was so excited to get back to my novel, that my dog and I sprinted the rest of the way home. Gwen had discovered a secret so scandalous that I simply gawked at the computer screen as I typed the words. Trust me when I say, Gwen’s little foray off the planned path was a fantastic twist to the story!
I hope I’ve given you enough for you to want to take a peek at HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC. I’m sure you are going to love it. Especially if paranormal romance sprinkled with mystery and a little time travel tossed in is your thing.
Thanks for hosting HIDDEN GYPSY MAGIC and A WITCH'S JOURNEY SERIES.
